Showing exactly why Google might be overlooking your content. And more importantly, how you can fix it. So we’re gonna uncover how authentic patient stories, smart link building, and a strong Google Review strategy can dramatically boost your practice’s visibility and attract more local patients.
Hey everybody. Welcome back to the No BS Dental Growth Podcast. I’m your host, Chris Pistorius, and today we are diving deep into a local SEO strategy that’s critical for every dentist and orthodontist. If you’ve ever felt the frustration of creating great content that seems completely invisible on Google.
Trust me, you’re not alone. Today’s episode was inspired by the excellent insights shared by Joy Hawkins and Company from Sterling Sky, who first brought attention to some key issues affecting local search visibility. Joy’s work has highlighted crucial strategies and real world examples showing exactly why Google might be overlooking your content, and more importantly how you can fix it.
So today I’m gonna take that data and put it into dental. Specific terms for you. So we’re gonna uncover how authentic patient stories, smart link building, and a strong Google Review, review, review strategy can dramatically boost your practice’s visibility and attract more local patients. So let’s jump right into making your dental practice.
Less impossible to ignore online. So if you’ve ever spent hours crafting detailed dental content for your website only to see Google completely ignore it. You know how frustrating that can feel. You’re expecting your practice to rank high for searches like Best dentist near me or orthodontist in. Tampa, but instead, your pages don’t even show up in search results.
Now, here’s why that might be happening. Google does not automatically just index every piece of content that you create, especially now with so much dental related content flooding the internet. Including lots of generic AI generated pages, Google prioritize what’s generally going to be helpful and relevant to patients.
So the solution isn’t always writing more or longer content, and in fact, sometimes shorter, clear. Patient focused pages perform better. For example, one dental practice might have a detailed technical explanation of cosmetic dentistry procedures, while another practice has shorter pages answering just common patient questions directly and clearly.
Often it’s that second. Simpler approach that’s gonna get better rankings. The key takeaway for your practice is to focus on quality, relevance, and patient connection, not simply length or keyword density. So let’s now talk about, um, your, basically your new SEO secret weapon. The crucial thing about local SEO and, and tips for dentist and orthodontists is Google Rewards authentic patient-centered content.
Real patient stories resonate deeply with prospective patients, making your pages more relevant and valuable in Google’s eyes. Consider these examples. So a dentist improved local rankings dramatically by adding a genuine patient testimonial about how their SMI smile makeover boosted their confidence.
This story not only increased search rankings, but it also boosted patient consultation specifically. Another client that we had an orthodontist highlighted a patient’s experience undergoing Invisalign treatment. Showcasing real before and after photos and sharing personal insights. After adding this story in both rankings and website inquiries increase substantially.
The lesson here is clear, real relatable stories outperform generic keyword heavy content every single time. Didn’t always use to be like that, but it is now. So let’s talk about effective link building. It’s still a cornerstone of strong local SEO, but it must be done strategically and authentically, particularly in dentistry and orthodontics.
Now, here’s how we see that dentists can leverage local link building. Partner with complimentary local healthcare providers. For instance, as a dentist, consider contributing content about children’s oral health to a local pediatrician’s website. This provides value to the pediatrician’s patients and earn your practice a high quality backlink to your website.
Orthodontist could collaborate with local wedding photographers. Or event planners, writing guest articles on how to achieve a perfect smile for your big day, securing valuable backlinks and local exposure. See dental practices specializing in like cosmetic procedures, could even team up with local beauty salons or wellness centers, offering educational content on maintaining healthy teeth and gums as part of overall wellness.
Now the goal here is quality over quantity. Seek authentic strategic connections that benefit both your local patients and your practices online presence. So let’s talk now about how for dentists and orthodontists, Google reviews are more important than ever for your local SEO success. Google closely considers both the frequency and the recency of your reviews when ranking local search results.
Here’s an example. Imagine three local dental practices practice a 150 reviews, but none new in the last several months. Practice B 90 reviews consistently adding five to 10 new reviews each month, and then practice C, only 60 reviews actively adding at least two to three new reviews every week. Over time practices B and C will outperform practice A, simply because Google values ongoing patient feedback and interaction.
Regular recent reviews also directly influence patients’ decisions, increasing the likelihood that they’ll choose your practice from search results. So the key takeaway here, regularly gather new patient reviews. To consistently maintain and improve your local SEO rankings. So I wanna talk a little bit about some practical tips, um, specifically designed to helping you dentist and orthodontist gather more consistent high quality patient reviews.
You should really think about if you’re not already automating your review requests using patient engagement platform tools. Maybe they’re integrated into your practice managed software. Maybe it’s uh, like BirdEye, something like that. Automatically send friendly reminders via text or email. Right after patient appointments, use QR codes in your practice, um, in your waiting rooms and check out areas directly linking your Google review page.
Uh, make leaving a review quick and effortless for them. Just make sure they do it on their own phone, not a shared computer. Also, broaden who you request reviews from, not just patients who underwent major procedures. Include anyone you’ve helped through a consultation or provided useful dental advice to ’cause you have that relationship.
Encourage your dental team, front desk staff hygienists assistance to personally ask satisfied patients for reviews. Making the request personal and meaningful. For example, after a successful orthodontic appointment, your staff might say, you know, if you’ve enjoyed today’s visits visit, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could leave us a quick review on Google.
Mentioning my name really helps our team. Patients often respond, respond positively. Two, um, such a direct and personal request from an authority figure. Implement these simple strategies consistently and you’ll rapidly grow your reviews, strengthening your local SEO presence and attracting more new patients.
